Am I Drinking Enough Water?

Am I Drinking Enough Water?

Water is essential for life and is considered a vital nutrient. It plays a key role in the digestion and absorption of food and in transporting nutrients to cells. Water supports the biochemical reactions necessary for life and health. It contributes to the proper functioning of cells, tissues, organs, and systems. It also helps eliminate harmful substances produced during metabolism, regulates body temperature, and provides lubrication for joints.

In addition to all these functions, water supplies essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and fluoride. Fluid loss increases in certain conditions such as hot weather, intense physical activity, consumption of high-protein or salty foods, sweating, urination, fever (which raises body temperature), respiratory conditions, or diarrhea (through the intestines). In these cases, the body’s need for water also increases, and it is crucial to replace lost fluids to maintain the body’s fluid balance.

Maintaining the balance of water in the body is vital. Your daily water requirement can be calculated with the formula: 35 ml x body weight (kg). (For example, a person weighing 60 kg needs about 2.1 liters of water per day.)

You can also check if you're drinking enough water by observing the color of your urine. A darker urine color may indicate that your body is not getting enough water.
